This post is long overdue. I would love to thank Hanna Almassi from GRAZIA UK Magazine for including me in this lovely New York Heatwave feature. I received this August issue some time ago and I was really excited to open it up. Here's some of what I saw...

The Awakening by Sonny Carroll

This is one of my all time favorite pieces of writing && I get inspired every time I read it. This Isn't the whole poem but a few of my favorite parts of it. I hope you all get inspired as well <3

Photobucket

A time comes in your life when you finally get it... When in the midst of all your fears and insanity you stop dead in your tracks and somewhere, the voice inside your head cries out - ENOUGH!

Photobucket

Enough fighting and crying, or struggling to hold on. And, like a child quieting down after ablind tantrum, your sobs begin to subside, you shudder once or twice, you blink back your tears and through a mantle of wet lashes, you begin to look at the world through new eyes.

This is your awakening...

Photobucket

You realize that it's time to stop hoping and waiting for something to change, or for happiness, safety and security to come galloping over the next horizon. You come to terms with the fact that he is not Prince Charming and you are not Cinderella and that in the real world, there aren't always fairy tale endings (or beginnings for that matter) and that any guarantee of "happily ever after" must begin with you and in the process, a sense of serenity is born of acceptance.

Photobucket

You awaken to the fact that you are not perfect and that not everyone will always love, appreciate or approve of who or what you are ... and that's OK. (They are entitled to their own views and opinions.) And you learn the importance of loving and championing yourself and in the process, a sense of new found confidence is born of self-approval.

Photobucket

You stop complaining and blaming other people for the things they did to you (or didn't do for you) and you learn that the only thing you can really count on is the unexpected. You learn that people don't always say what they mean or mean what they say and that not everyone will always be there for you and that it's not always about you. So, you learn to stand on your own and to take care of yourself and in the process, a sense of safety & security is born of self-reliance.

Photobucket

You stop judging and pointing fingers and you begin to accept people as they are and to overlook their shortcomings and human frailties and in the process, a sense of peace & contentment is born of forgiveness.

Photobucket

You realize that much of the way you view yourself and the world around you, is a result of all the messages and opinions that have been ingrained into your psyche. You begin to sift through all the junk you've been fed about how you should behave, how you should look and how much you should weigh, what you should wear and where you should shop and what you should drive, how and where you should live and what you should do for a living, who you should marry and what you should expect of a marriage, the importance of having and raising children or what you owe your parents. You learn to open up to new worlds and different points of view. You begin reassessing and redefining who you are and what you really stand for.

Photobucket

You learn the difference between wanting and needing and you begin to discard the doctrines and values you've outgrown, or should never have bought into to begin with and in the process, you learn to go with your instincts.

You learn that it is truly in giving that we receive and that there is power and glory in creating and contributing and you stop maneuvering through life merely as a "consumer" looking for your next fix.

Photobucket

You learn that principles such as honesty and integrity are not the outdated ideals of a by gone era, but the mortar that holds together the foundation upon which you must build a life. You learn that you don't know everything.

Then you learn about love. Romantic love and familial love. How to love, how much to give in love, when to stop giving and when to walk away. You learn not to project your needs or your feelings onto a relationship. You learn that you will not be more beautiful, more intelligent, more lovable or important because of the man on your arm or the child that bears your name.

You learn to look at relationships as they really are and not as you would have them be. You stop trying to control people, situations and outcomes.

You learn that just as people grow and change, so it is with love; and you learn that you don't have the right to demand love on your terms, just to make you happy.

You learn that alone does not mean lonely. You look in the mirror and come to terms with the fact that you will never be a size 5 or a perfect 10 and you stop trying to compete with the image inside your head and agonizing over how you "stack up."

Finally, with courage in your heart and with God by your side you take a stand, you take a deep breath and you begin to design the life you want to live as best as you can.

I HOPE  YOU ARE ALL HAVING A LOVELY DAY!
THERE IS BEAUTY INSIDE ALL OF US ;)

This is just a quick post before I leave to explore more of LA and hopefully do some serious SHOPPING :) After visiting Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, I have decided with no hesitation that this place is where I want to ultimately live hehe. In MY opinion, it's every girls dream...or should I say MY dream. Not only is it amazingly Beautiful, but it's shopping Galore ((if you have the finances of course)). I wore a simple mint colored babydoll top from Urban Outfitters, black bodycon skirt from American Apparel, Vintage color-blocked clutch and earrings and my favorite wrist accesories ;)

This is an outfit that you can either dress up or dress down, but of course I can't go without my high heels for too long ;) so I was happy to throw on my super HIGH L.A.M.B sandals. I am in love with stripes and this top was a steal from Urban Outfitters.

I believe that it's important for females to have tailored pieces in their wardrobe. There is nothing like wearing pieces that complements your figure and accentuates your assets ;) So these pair of pants that I found at H&M was exactly what I was looking for.

Photobucket

On a random note, I'll be in Southern California this week to ship my lil sis off to College...I call her my little "mini me" ;) ...I can't believe she's gonna be sooooo far away for sooooo long...I might just start missing her ((Shhh)) :'( but on a happier note, I am overly excited to be in LA and check out the shopping scene && of course the FOOOOD...I'll try to share pics while I'm there.

I have a new found love for cropped tops and High-Waisted EVERYTHING. There is something about these two pieces that is just classic. I can always just grab it out of my wardrobe without second guessing myself.
Photobucket
I got this simple cropped tee from none other than American Apparel where I can find the best basics. I loved the way it hugged the body versus my other cropped tops which just hung loosely.
Photobucket
I have wanted to wear this color-block pleated skirt from H&M for a while now. I got it in the beginning of summer but just never knew what to pair it with. I thought the cropped top would complement it by accentuating the pink and purple shades.
Photobucket

I added the broach to make the waist a little smaller but I also thought it would be a great accessory to add to the skirt. I sported my Envelope clutch from Aldo once more along with my vintage bracelet and vintage choker necklace. The platform pumps from Steve Madden seemed to go perfectly with the rest of the outfit.
Always remember my lovelies, you never need to look fabulous for anyone but yourself. Wear what makes you comfortable but also something that makes you feel like you're on top of the world. I'm never overdressed, I'm just living!

Stay stylish my gems

Yesterday (August 2) was my Birthday ((YES I am a LIONESS!)) && this was what I wore. I felt the print was appropriate for the occasion ;)

I found this dress while shopping at forever 21 with my sisters && I was pleasantly surprised so I immediately grabbed it. I paired it with my L.A.M.B platform sandals && as many of you may or may not notice, I LOVE over sized envelope clutches...the bigger the better! I see them as my replacement for the HUGE tote bags I usually carry where I always seem to pack too much Junk.

I placed a gold vintage broach at the side of the dress to accentuate the waist line. I feel that this is a great alternative to wearing a waist belt.
