Fall weather is finally here. And as temperatures start to dip, it’s time to start putting away your summer clothes and renew your closet with fall staples. One such staple that’s been in my closet and that I am most excited to wear again is a versatile Sweater Dress. I’ve worn many sweater dresses over the years and every time I put one on I instantly feel chic, sophisticated and oh so cozy!

Read on to learn how to style sweater dresses, what accessories go best with them, and more of my tips and tricks!

Monotone dresses are a blank canvas for your next masterpiece.

Look for dresses in traditional colors like grey, navy and black. Or go with more trendy tones like lilac, baby pink, mauve or rose gold.

Tip: Consider the material. Cotton and viscose are more lightweight and stretchy perfect for warmer weather. For colder months, look for wool, merino and other chunkier fabrics.

For those more daring, try bold graphics in stripes, checkers and block colors.

The graphic can make a statement in and of itself. As a bonus, horizontal stripes can appear slimmer and more flattering on most body types.

Shoes: Pick your poison.

I love to pair shorter and midi dresses with platform sneakers and heels for an instantly fun and playful look. Longer and full-length dresses go perfectly with knee-high boots and booties for extra comfort and protection from the elements. But sometimes the total opposite works too – try pairing a shorter dress with knee-high boots for a more daring look.

Layer them up for extra warmth.

Although warmer that their counterparts, sweater dresses are not the only solution for chilly evenings. Throw on a biker jacket to add an edge or a blazer for a more formal look. Or layer with longer herringbone and pea coats for even more warmth.

Accessorize with hats, bags and belts.

Use my favorite chain belts to cinch your waist and accentuate your assets. Add a clutch or a mini bag to instantly accessorize. Finish off the look with a beret or a felt hat for a classic Fall combo.
