Puerto Rico has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Nearly 300 beaches to chose from! There’s something for everyone – turquoise water and palm tree-lined lagoons for swimming and sunbathing; coral reefs for snorkeling and scuba diving; big waves for surfing; wild beaches and “party beaches”; beaches with restaurants and food trucks and secret beaches that are accessible only through a hike in the jungle.
Today, I’m sharing a natural swimming pool wonder located on the north of Puerto Rico – Mar Chiquita.
What is it? A half-moon shaped lagoon with an opening on one side that stops most waves and creates a still pool of beautiful turquoise water.
How to get there? Located on the northern end of the island, in the town of Manatí. It’s ~1-hour drive west from San Juan; ~1.5-hour drive east from another beautiful beach, Playa Jobos.
Good for? Protected from the large waves of the ocean, Mar Chiquita is a perfect swimming hole. It’s also great for sunbathing and relaxing by the water.
Food Options? Yes, there are vendors and trucks at the beach who sell food and drinks. However, the beach definitely dies down after dark, just something to keep in mind, as they are only there during the light hours.
How crowded? It’s a popular beach for locals and tourists alike. Go during the week to skip the crowds.
I love this this vintage-inspired black bikini set from L*Space. I felt like a 70s babe straight out of a Pirelli calendar frolicking on a Caribbean beach. The top with twists in the fabric paired with a high-rise yet revealing bikini are a total vibe. And when channeling your inner supermodel, you can’t go wrong with a deep black combo. Pineapple is optional.
