Nano Brows vs Microblading – If you’re tired of filling in your sparse or uneven brows every morning, you might have considered microblading, the semi-permanent tattooing technique that creates realistic hair strokes on the brows. But did you know that there’s an even more advanced and precise version of microblading that lasts longer and looks more natural? It’s called nano brows, and it’s the ultimate brow enhancement you need to try!

What are Nano Brows?

Nano brows are a form of permanent makeup that uses a fine, single-needle tattoo machine to create ultra-thin hair strokes on the eyebrows. The needle is so fine that it can mimic the look of natural brow hairs, creating a fuller and more symmetrical appearance. The pigment is deposited deeper into the skin than microblading, which makes nano brows more durable and long-lasting.

Microblading vs Nano Brows – What’s the difference?

Microblading and nano brows are both semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing techniques that create natural-looking hair strokes on the eyebrows. The main difference between them is the tool used to deposit the pigment into the skin. Microblading uses a handheld tool with several small needles that make tiny cuts in the epidermis (the top layer of skin). Nano brows use a single-needle tattoo machine that delivers the pigment deeper into the skin and with more precision. Nano brows last longer than microblading (two to three years versus one to two years) and are more suitable for oily or textured skin. Microblading causes more trauma to the skin and is less permanent, which makes it a good option for normal to dry skin and for those who want to change their brow shape later.

Why choose Nano Brows?

Nano brows have many benefits over microblading and other brow treatments. Here are some of them:

  • Nano brows last longer than microblading. While microblading fades after one to two years, nano brows can last up to three years. This means less frequent touch-ups and more savings in the long run.
  • Nano brows look more natural than microblading. Because the needle is so fine and precise, nano brows can create more realistic hair strokes that blend seamlessly with your natural brows. The pigment also matches your skin tone and hair color better than microblading.
  • Nano brows are suitable for all skin types and tones. Unlike microblading, which may not work well on oily or textured skin, nano brows can work on any skin type and tone. Nano brows are also ideal for correcting previous brow tattoos or scars.
  • Nano brows are less painful and traumatic than microblading. Because the needle is smaller and more flexible, nano brows cause less damage to the skin and less bleeding than microblading. The procedure is also done with topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort.

How to get nano brows? Where to begin?

If you’re interested in getting nano brows, here are some steps you need to follow:

  • Do your research. Nano brows are not regulated in every state, so make sure you find a reputable and experienced artist like Jess Lee, a resident artist at White Rabbit and guest artist at SIX + AIT, who has proper training and licensing. She works between NYC and Texas so definitely check her out if you’re based in either of these states.
  • Look for someone who specializes in nano brows and can show you before-and-after photos of their work. You can also read reviews from other clients and ask for referrals from friends or family who have had nano brows done.
  • Book a consultation. Before the procedure, you’ll need to have a consultation with your provider to discuss your expectations and preferences. They will also do a patch test on your skin to make sure you’re not allergic to the pigment ink.
  • Before you decide to get nano brows, make sure you do your research and find a qualified provider who can deliver the results you want safely and effectively.

My Experience

As a beauty enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for the latest trends and innovations in the industry. But when it comes to my own brows, I’ve struggled with sparse and uneven arches for years. That’s why I decided to try microblading at SIX + AIT beauty studio in NYC. The result was amazing: I woke up every morning with flawless brows that required zero maintenance. But there was a catch: microblading doesn’t last forever, especially on oily skin like mine. After a year, I noticed my brows fading and losing their shape. So I went back to Jess Lee, the master artist who did my initial session, for a touch-up. This time, she suggested I try nano brows, a similar technique that uses a finer needle and delivers the pigment deeper into the skin. She said nano brows would last longer and look more natural on my skin type. I agreed, and I’m so glad I did. My brows look even better than before: fuller, more defined, and more symmetrical. And the best part? They’ll stay that way for up to three years. Nano brows are definitely worth the hype.

How to Prepare for your appointment

To ensure optimal results and prevent complications, you’ll need to follow some pre-care instructions before your appointment. These include:

  • Don’t wax or tweeze your eyebrows a week prior to treatment.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, ibuprofen, aspirin, and fish oil supplements at least 24 hours prior to treatment.
  • Don’t get a facial at least two weeks prior to treatment.
  • Don’t sunbathe or tan on the day of your procedure.
  • Don’t use retinol or vitamin A products one month prior to treatment.

Day of Appointment

On the day of your appointment, your provider will map out your new brows and draw them on with a pencil, so you can approve the shape and color. They will also apply a topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort. The actual nano brow procedure takes about one to two hours, depending on how much work your brows need.

The Follow-Up Session

Follow up with a touch-up session. After four to six weeks, you’ll need to go back for a touch-up session to fill in any gaps or adjust the shape or color of your brows. This session is usually shorter and less expensive than the initial session.

How to care for Nano Brows?

After getting nano brows, you’ll need to follow some aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results and prevent infection or scarring. These include:

  • Avoid getting your brows wet for at least a week.
  • Apply an antibiotic ointment or a healing balm twice a day for the first week.
  • Avoid touching, picking, or scratching your brows while they heal.
  • Avoid sun exposure, makeup, swimming, sauna, or any activities that cause sweating for at least two weeks.
  • Avoid chemical peels, facials, or any skincare products that contain acids or exfoliants for at least four weeks.
